Thoughts on loss, grief and chronic pain. Mary Oliver talks in a poem about a box of darkness that was given to her… and how in time she comes to recognise that even that was a gift. I cannot say that I have come to feel that way about the various periods of darkness that I have experienced at times in my life. But I will say that they have made me resilient and have taught me that I am stronger than I look. I have learnt that grief, loss, sadness, despair, desperation…anxiety… they are not forever and they will not break me. .
